Cause for comparison

4th Nov 2009

Marks and Spencer have recently announced a campaign to target the competition faced by high street competitor Waitrose. Their campaign, under the slogan ‘Price checked against Waitrose Essentials, quality checked by M&S’ is an attempt to win back the waning sales faced by M&S during the recent downturn. It appears that this is the first time that M&S have used a direct comparison against Waitrose despite being close competitors.

An M&S spokesperson said: “We’ve price-checked our Wise Buys products against the Waitrose Essential range to highlight their exceptional value”. The Wise Buys launched in the summer of this year highlighting the lower than expected prices of M&S products. The Waitrose Essentials range launched earlier in the summer and has given cause for a direct comparison.

At Creation Agency we know just how important pricing comparisons can be to your business. Our partnership with price comparison specialists, Cogenta, gives us the ability to provide real-time pricing reports. For further information on Cogenta’s services go to www.cogenta.com.

Through the research collated by the Retail Teams at Creation Agency we can give high street stores the opportunity to review and educate themselves to specific pricing movements. With these services prices can remain competitive and stores can be pro-active in their own pricing structures.
