Google or Bing?
27th Oct 2009
Was wondering just how pervasive Google is in the world of Search so I took a quick straw poll of the office today about Bing, Microsoft's search engine.
On paper, Bing is really neat. There are loads of interesting features that address the science of Search and attempt to create a happier experience for the devoted Searcher.

Despite most people in our office knowing of Bing, only one or two have used it and zero use it as their Search engine of choice. A robust and directional research sample if ever there was one!
So why Google? I think because it's such a simple, easy experience at the basic level that most people need, yet you can go mad and spend all year doing higher level stuff like Google Analytics, Insights and easily searchable public data.
Does make you wonder where it's all heading though. In this fight to provide more and more organised information, amazing commercial value is available for free. For instance, I'm not sure marketing planners need much more than Google.
I started this post considering the merit of other Search engines. I've finished it wondering at what point we'll start paying for the Google genius that we're becoming so accustomed to.
