Latest figures from Nielsen show that promotions through the Grocery channel accounted for 37% of all sales during September. The proportion of sales beat the previous high of 36% that was recorded in November 2009. Some analysts have argued this is brands and retailers having to run hard to stand still but is also further evidence of how competitive the race is for a high proportion of customers spend.
