Question of the Week: COD2 sucked in or spat out?

16th Nov 2009

The hype for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was unescapable, surely there was no way it was going to live up to it. Did this media pressure put you off buying the game, or did it suck you in and give you no choice?

  1. I asked this question because I noticed that the hype around the game actually repelled me a little bit. I didn't like the feeling that I was being driven to buy it, and keep up with everyone. Still I did buy it, so maybe this says more about me than product hyperbole.

  2. I got this as a present, so not too sure if I'm qualified to answer the question. But I fee I would have bought it anyway. I didnt rush to play, which I'm now regretting as I'm getting my ass kicked by level 60+ guys who have been playing since last tuesday. But it is good. Go buy it. Go on. 1.4m people cannot be wrong.

  3. Still aint bought it yet cause not enough time and invovled in other games, Dota custom map from warcraft III, Heros of Newerth (HON) Beta full version game of DOTA. FPS hummmh Counter Stike Source, but COD2 on console I will have to commit suicide before I do that. PC all the way waiting for the PC version and a new Gcard to keep up with it.

  4. If I’m perfectly honest I missed most of the hype, it’s not really my bag, so perhaps it didn’t grab my attention. You can get sucked-in if you are a fan. I won’t be buying this, so perhaps I’m out of touch with everyone else?

  5. I purchased the game and have been playing it a fair bit. I thought it was talked up more than any other game I've seen released but that only got me more excited about the release. I was always going to buy this game having played and liked the previous COD games but for those gamers that weren't, I can see how the hype surrounding "the most eagerly anticipated release ever" may have pursuaded them to "invest" in COD. I can confirm that the hype was justified, It is a great game - just don't stay up too late playing it!!!

  6. I finished Uncharted2 just before I got it, and that felt like a much better game, great story, great acting and really amazing set pieces. But long term COD online is a better proposition. "Dota custom map from warcraft III" What are you talking about Pat?

  7. It inspired me to get last year's back out and play it again, having got stuck early on! And I am enjoying it too. I've asked for this year's as a Xmas present. I like the CoD series. It's undoubtedly impressive. But it does sometimes feel like a chore to complete each mission, like you really are liberating St Petersburg from Nazi forces instead of just enjoying a PS3 game in your lounge. And that has it's downside, like the fact that some aspects of liberating St Petersburg is in fact quite boring.

  8. Not enough time to play COD2 involved in DOTA. Google it and find out, or visit dotaallstars.com. Played by Bass Hunter and he was made famous by Dota players who liked his orignal one hit wonder.

  9. Well I'm massively regretting pre ordering a copy and sending it to my parents house whilst on holiday... my Brother has now claimed it as his own and I have played it twice in a week! Perhaps like Pete I'll add it to my Xmas list! From the spectating I've done it looks fantastic though and definitely lives up to the hype... the airport level especially is brilliant... loads of places to hide!

  10. The Airport Level is terrifying, it made me feel ill.
