A SpringBoard to computer literacy

A training partner of Creation Agency, Springboard4Asia, has recently won the ICDL (International Computer Driving License Scheme) Licensee Best Practice Award 2009 under the ‘Social Contribution’ category at the recently held worldwide conference in Greece.
Enhancing computer literacy in the rural school system of Cambodia
The Cambodian Education system was largely destroyed during the ravages of the Polpot era. Great strides forward are being made though, with work on the limited infrastructure gaining momentum. Currently only a small minority of schools even have electricity let alone computers. The ICDL is critical to the governments worthy efforts to improve its economy and the lives of its citizens.
SpringBoard4Cambodia and World Education began discussions in July of 2008 in order to explore possible ways of enhancing computer literacy in the rural school system of Cambodia. SpringBoard4Cambodia is the ICDL Licensee in Cambodia, and provides computer software to teach computer literacy, and administer rigorous competency tests that lead to internationally recognised certification.
The Schools for Life (SfL) programme – an ICDL initiative – seeks to enhance education in basic computer literacy throughout rural Cambodian secondary schools by making the ICDL Courseware, provided by SpringBoard4Cambodia, readily available. This will contribute to a mandate of the Schools for Life Program to increase access to education of relevance.
In early August 2009, the ICDL Program was rolled out successfully in Kor High School. The School at Kampong Cham Province has been chosen as the first school to implement ICDL program under the SfL programme. It is one of the schools that have shown the most rapid progress in their educational development. SpringBoard4Cambodia have been working with SfL personnel to train teachers and test administration in using the coaching programs to improve computer literacy in their schools. This will culminate in a pre-test that simulates the actual certification test that will be administered at the end of the year. The pre-test will lead to a pre-selection of student candidates who are most likely to be able to pass the final certification test.
