Recently with the help of Colin Hayward I created the artwork for the Mercury Music Prize nominated album We Can Create for the Maps. The band have gone on to be quite successful since the nomination and are currently touring the U.S.

Building on that success their label Mute have launched a competition for people to design their own Maps cover, and have that work featured in a gallery. They have also appointed me one of the judges to select a winner.

The thing is, I don’t want anyone else to design a Maps cover. What if it’s better than mine? What if the band want to use it? And why didn’t my work get hung in a gallery? I mean, I’m not bitter, it just makes me very nervous.

How they expect me to pick a winner under this cloud of bitterness I do not know? I think I’m going to go for the worst one, the one that looks like it’s been done by a child, it’s the only way out of this sorry, selfish mess.
