One of my favourite bands The Super Furry Animals commissioned Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami to produce the artwork for the album, Hey Venus, which came out earlier this year.

Apparently Tanaami had no knowledge of the band prior to him designing the artwork, and the band had to communicate through Tanaami’s lawyers and only got to see the finishing result on completion. Also as a condition of working with him they had to accept what he produced, no questions asked.

That’s a great way to way to work! I’m going to need a team of lawyers, please instruct our accounts team to communicate to me only through them.

Personally I hate the cover, if I’d have been sent that artwork I’d have canned the release, which i think might make some people in the office happy, it’s not a popular rotation.
