Some days it’s really hard to feel inspired and other days I’m unstoppable. When I’m down and I need a hand the 5 things that inspire without fail are;

1. A Deadline
Nothing inspires me more, without a deadline I’m nothing, and as soon as it looms over me I catch fire. I love deadlines.

2. Music
In particular Bob Dylan, and especially the song ‘I Was Young When I Left Home’. Recently I worked through a whole pitch for LCC listening to ‘Tossing Seeds‘ by Superchunk, that really hit the spot, although I’m not sure everyone in the office agreed.

3. Making mistakes
I’ve always said this, but when you’ve been staring at something for 100 hours and it still looks wrong the minute you accidentally flip it or drop a colour on it, you make something you could never have thought of. It’s working outside of yourself and it’s the greatest feeling when it happens.

4. Music Documentaries
I know this is really specific, but really good music documentaries blow my mind. Here’s a few that really got my juices flowing; No Direction Home, The Last Waltz, Westway to the World and the BBC 2 series Seven Ages of Rock.

It’s kind of cheating, but I get such a guilty pleasure out of it. On one hand I love commenting on other people’s work and being really snidey, on the other there’s some really inspirational ads on here that can make you ‘ctrl’ ‘alt’ ‘delete’ a whole page of your own work.
