The opening of the Maps ‘We Can Create Exhibition’ has passed and the main thing is I had a good time. The work looked great, it was surprisingly busy and I met a fan all the way from New York, which was really nice. Incidentally there were more former Creation employees there than current ones, so thanks ‘friends’.

Thanks to everyone who did make it on the day, and if you didn’t, it’s on until 7th Feb at the Art Vinyl Gallery, 20 Broadway Market, London. You can see some photos from the day here.

I Exhibits Myself

There’s an exhibition of all my Maps artwork this Saturday 24th from 12midday until 5pm at The Art Vinyl Gallery, 20 Broadway Market, London E8 4PH. The exhibition runs from January 24th - February 7th

I’ll be there and James chapman will be DJing at the opening which will be attended by most of the artists. It’s my first ever exhibition, so if anyone is in the area please drop by. More info here.

Judge and Jury

The good news is me, and fellow Creators Brainy and Colin all made it into the Mute, ‘You Can Create‘ final. This means we get our artwork displayed at the Vinyl Art Gallery in Hackney and we get to go to the launch party on 26th. The only problem is I’m also one of the judges, so good luck Brainy and Colin, and erm, me.

Also I typed Maps into iTunes today and saw all my album and single covers together. I was pretty pleased with how the whole campaign looked, click the image on the left to see.

There’s nothing more up-to-date than today’s date.

2008 still looks a little bit futuristic to me. I hope there will be a point in the year where it’s a better fit, because at the moment it feels like a robot trying to blend in at a tea dance.

My thought for the new year is ‘less stuff, more time’, get into it.

‘Nobody Knows Anything’

There’s a famous showbiz maxim, coined by William Goldman: “nobody knows anything.”

Nobody knows what’s going to be a hit; nobody even knows whether what they’re working on is any good. Books, movies, TV shows… they all exist in a quantum state of undefined quality until an audience actually receives them, at which point an opinion is formed.

This is true also of design, I’ve just finished working on a huge branding campaign for an undisclosed city in the UK. It has the full backing of all the council and even the local MP, but there’s little bit of me that’s scared. What if when it hits the streets the people turn on me, or worse, what if there’s no reaction at all.

Either way I’m screwed.
