I know everyone is getting into it these days, but let me tell you about FaceBook. Being a complete sceptic when it comes to social networking (I really let MySpace pass me by and I’m not surprised by the backlash it seems to be suffering now), I have succumbed to FaceBook.

So let me tell you why it’s so good. Well, obviously, you can catch up with old friends. I’ve re-acquainted with people I had forgotten all about, so that’s nice, makes you feel a bit worthy that we’re all spreading good cheer. The other thing is, it has some great applications on it that people have written to enhance your friends networking experience. Many of them are silly things, but some are just brilliant.

One I put squarely into that category is the Traveller IQ app. Basically, there are lots of different categories but the main aim is to test your geography. My favourite is the world map, where it tests how well you know the location of various cities and famous places around the world. Each level gets harder and harder. On each turn, you have to plant your flag in the world globe in the place where you think Sorrento might be, or the capital of Burkino Faso, or Versailles Palace, or the location of Pearl Harbour. The closer you get to the place, the higher your score on each turn. It’s completely random, and really tests the old grey matter when it comes to GCSE Geography. Honestly, I love it, completely hooked! I’ve re-learned where so many places are in the world. I now know where Canberra is in relation to Sydney, Perth or Melbourne. I can decipher my Egypt from my Iraq, my Nepal from my Guinea, and don’t get me started on German cities - you just can’t catch me out!

Have a go. I’m up to level 10 now, and beat this - I got to within 2km of Sydney the other night. Man, I need to get out more!

Take a Break

I’ve just come back from one. And it’s only when you do you realise how much you needed it. Suddenly, I can get up again when my alarm goes off at 6.30am and spring out the house with some energy. A few weeks ago, that was not the case. So I say (and this is tough, being an employer), take a break! We’ll all benefit.

Man Yoo

Those who know me will know I am a big Man Yoo fan. Have been for many years. Of course I wasn’t born or raised in Manchester, but when you grew up in a footballing backwater like Lincoln, then you adopt a top team as well as support your local club. I was about 7 when I adopted Man Yoo as my team. I simply liked their shirts. And wanted to see someone other than Liverpool winning everything in sight. I am not lucky enough to have a season ticket at the Theatre of Dreams (thanks Colin!), so I do actively support the boys whenever I can. But what if Lincoln ever got into the Prem, I hear you ask? Well, that’s very hypothetical seeing as we’re currently in the relegation zone and favourites to drop out the league this season. But, if it happened, I would of course support my home club. If anyone knows any good United songs, please help me add to my repertoire (I know a lot already so the more obscure the better). Liverpool supporters need not apply at this stage!

Birthday Speculation

I want to clear up the confusion over my current age. Having been away on a two-week break, it seems a certain colleague was suggesting my recent birthday was my 38th. Now, I am not ageist - you are what you feel, etc, but I AM NOT 38! 35 and proud to look much younger! Ha!

It’s my birthday today and I’ve managed to avoid being in the office fielding questions about my age, which seems to have become a topic of speculation. Suffice to say I’m a little older than Callum Best and a little younger than Peter Stringfellow.
