Thanks to Hamish Pringle, Director General of the IPA, for (I think) happily fielding my interruptions and questions at tonights IDM lecture on the future of digital. I must admit, not being a regular at these kind of events I was slightly concerned that it would be full of stiffs trying to sell to each other. It was interesting though to hear the head of the UK ad industry body addressing issues that span our various approaches to putting a brand truth across to the wallet holding audience. It really is a time of getting the narrative right, then looking at all avenues to really engage consumers. Creative is key across disciplines, including digital, and the medium can’t be used as a substitute for getting the message right.
And thanks to the other delegates who thanked me for my questions. Next time though, ask for yourselves. I might be feeling shy and you’ll kick yourselves if you don’t.
Anyway, this really made my evening… the last slide was the Sony Bravia bunnies ad. Actually I don’t think it’s as mid-blowing visually as the paint ad, but it does use probably my favourite track of all time. And it really is pretty good.
